How do I backup the SecurityGateway database? Print

  • 0

This article explains how to configure SecurityGateway to automatically back up all settings and files stored in its database in order to prevent data-loss in the event of problem on the server.

To configure how to automatically backup SecurityGateway's database and settings follow these steps:

Log into the SecurityGateway site using a global administrator account

From the Dashboard, click on Setup / Users

Locate the Database Maintenance section

Click on Backup

You may then configure the following options:

  • Do not perform automatic backup

When selected, SecurityGateway will never backup its database. This is not recommended unless you have another backup solution in place.

  • Automatically backup configuration data every x day(s) at 00:00

Choose this option if you wish to export/backup SecurityGateway's configuration information only. Specify the number of days to wait between automatic backups and the time on which to do it using the 24-hour system. By default, this is set to backup every 1 day at 02:00.

  • Automatically backup entire database every x day(s) at 00:00

SecurityGateway will backup the entire database, including all configuration and settings, the Message Log, Reports, transcipts and so on. By default, this is set to backup every day at 02:00. Note that backing up the entire database will require more time to complete, and does NOT include the Attachments folder or Log Files.

To manually backup SecurityGateway, click on the appropriate link to backup just the configuration data or the entire database.

Note that the filenames of configuation backups start with 'Export' and full-database backup filenames start with 'Backup'.

Additional Comments

By default, SecurityGateway saves all backup files to \Program Files\Alt-N Technologies\SecurityGateway\Backup. You may want to make a backup copy of those files in case of machine or drive failure.

Backup files work only with the same version of SecurityGateway; if you upgrade to a new version, you will need to create a new set of backups.
