MDaemon 12.0.x - Perform a wired BlackBerry Enterprise Server activation to an MDaemon account Print

  • 0

This article will explain how to 'BES enable' an MDaemon account and activate the BlackBerry device Over the Air (OTA).

Note: Activation for the first time may delete all data on the BlackBerry device. For this reason, before activating the device the user should use BlackBerry Desktop Manager to backup any data you do not wish to lose.
In order to avoid duplicates on the BlackBerry device:

  • Disable or remove any third party sync clients (such as a SyncML client) currently in use to synchronize data with the MDaemon account.
  • If the BlackBerry device is using the BlackBerry Internet Service (BIS) to get mail from the MDaemon account, go to the device’s email setup and remove that account.  (Note: See Related Article below)
  • At the time of activation, if the BlackBerry device contains calendar entries, then the activation process will not send existing calendar events on the MDaemon server to the BlackBerry. The BlackBerry user must either perform a device wipe before activating, or perform the calendar RSET procedure as described here: http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB15139

From the MDaemon console:

  1. Click on the Accounts menu
  2. Click Edit Account…
  3. Double Click on the account you wish to BES enable
  4. Select BlackBerry BES on the left pane
  5. Enable BlackBerry enable this account
  6. Click Set wireless Enterprise Activation password
  7. Enter a wireless Enterprise Activation password into the field provided (example: abc123)
  8. Click OK
  9. Please enter password again to confirm
  10. Click OK
  11. You will receive the following message:
    Wireless Enterprise Activation password stored.
The password will work for up to 48hrs and is only required for wireless Enterprise Activation.
Please note that not all BlackBerry devices are capable of wireless Enterprise Activation and must be activated via USB cable through WorldClient (See Related Articles) by logging into WorldClient and selecting the BlackBerry Management option.

  12. Click OK
  13. Click OK

Once the device has been BlackBerry BES enabled, the end-user can set their wireless Enterprise Activation password through WorldClient. (Note: Only needs to be done once via the MDaemon GUi or WorldClient).

  1. Log in to your WorldClient account that is BES enabled.
  2. Click Options
  3. Click BlackBerry Management
  4. Enter an Activation password in the field provided under Over the Air activation. (example: abc123)
  5. Confirm Password in the field provided
  6. Click Save at the top of the page
  7. Click OK to the Activation password has been saved dialog box.

We are now able to activate the BlackBerry device with the wireless Enterprise Activation password we set.
Note: Instructions for wireless activation may vary depending on which model and operating system the BlackBerry device you are using has installed. In this example, the BlackBerry 9650 (Bold) is used.

  1. Select the Options menu from the home screen, and then press the trackpad
  2. Select Advanced Options then press the trackpad
  3. Select Enterprise Activation then press the trackpad
  4. Enter your BES enabled MDaemon account’s email address
  5. Enter the wireless Enterprise Activation password we previously set
  6. Press the BlackBerry menu key and select Activate, and then press the trackpad
  7. You will receive a confirmation stating that your email address is now enabled

A new email icon will appear (Desktop) on your device representing your BES enabled MDaemon account and Enterprise Activation will continue in the background.
